The Keystone Hops are an informally organized club of new and experienced brewers, ready to share advice, as well as beer, mead, cider and wine. In a relaxed and friendly environment the members will celebrate successes, commiserate over problems, and join together for a wide range of activities.
Club Meetings are held on the third Thursday of each month. We meet at Keystone Homebrew Supply to share the fruits of our labors. A typical meeting will have 10 to 20 brewers, young and old, experienced and novice, bringing their masterpieces to be enjoyed and their disappointments to be diagnosed. Recipes, tips, and tall tales are passed around with excellent homebrew and light snacks. The gathering starts at 7 p.m, except December when we start at 8 due to holiday shopping. Bring a bottle or three and join us. Membership is free and you don't have to join to attend.
The club has a variety of activities through the course of the year. They include:
The War of the
Worts. The Delaware Valley's largest homebrew
competition. The competition is held in February, and has
been an annual tradition for thirteen years.
Big Brew held in the
spring brings together club members to all brew together.
(and coincidentally, party).
A Club Picnic is held
in July of each year at an area farm. Club members are
encouraged to come and have fun, and to camp overnight.
The Bourbon Barrel Brew
is a fall tradition. Members combine to brew a heavy beer,
which will be fermented in a bourbon barrel for a unique
flavor profile.
BJCP Study sessions
for aspiring judges are held periodically.
Informal Club
Competitions where everyone is encourage to brew the
same style, and judging is a light-hearted and informal
process.
