War of the Worts VIII is an American Homebrewer's Association sanctioned competition and
provides you an opportunity to have your homemade beer and mead evaluated by
BJCP registered judges. Prizes and awards will
be given for beers placing first, second, and third in each category, and for Best
of Show. The competition will be held on Saturday, February 22nd at the
The Drafting Room, in Springhouse PA
(directions are located below). Judges should be there at 9:00AM, and,
winners will be announced at 4:30pm.
Competition Guidelines and Entry Requirements:
- War of the Worts VIII is open to all home brewers.
- All beers must be noncommercial in nature and produced at home.
- The entry fee is $6 for the first entry, and $5 for each subsequent entry accompanying the first.
Checks can be made payable to Keystone Homebrew Supply.
- Submit two 10-16 ounce bottles for each entry.
- Bottles may be brown or green glass, and must be free of any labels, raised glass designs, etched logos, or other identifying marks.
- A completed entry form must accompany each entry, recipes are optional. If entering more than one beer, make sure the correct entry form accompanies each entry.
- A bottle ID form must be attached to each bottle with a rubber band.
- Categories and subcategories may be combined for judging purposes, however beers will be judged according to the category/subcategory in which they are entered. The style guidelines for each category and subcategory are included in this packet.
- It is the responsibility of the brewer to decide which is the appropriate category for their beer.
- Entries which do not meet these entry requirements will be disqualified.
- Any disputes that arise during the competition will be settled by the competition organizers.
- All Judges and Stewards are requested to arrive by 9:00 AM. Results will be announced at 4:30 PM.
- Brewer feedback is the primary purpose of War of the Worts VIII. Your score sheets will be returned to you shortly after the contest. Please do not send an SASE with your entry.
- Award winners will earn points towards the title of Delaware Valley Homebrewer of the year.
The Delaware Valley Homebrewer of the Year is a cumulative award to recognize consistency
in brewing at a high quality level. Points are earned by brewing award winning beers at competitions
in the Delaware Valley. The known competitions in this year's award are: War of the Worts in
February; HOPS-BOPS in March; BUZZ-OFF in June; and the BONES Bash in October.

Entry Deadlines:
Entries will be accepted from 02/02/2003 through 02/16/2003.
Late entries will only be accepted at the discretion of the registrar.

Directions from the PA Turnpike
- Exit from the turnpike at Exit #26, Fort Washington. Take Route 309 Expressway North (it is the first available right turn after the toll booth). Be careful! it merges with the expressway traffic.
- Follow the expressway to the Norristown Road/Spring House exit. It will be the third exit while proceeding north.
- Turn left at the end of the exit ramp onto Norristown Rd. (There is a traffic light at the end of the ramp).
- Go through two more traffic lights. You will pass the Rohm & Haas complex on the right at the second light.
- At the third light make a hard left onto Bethlehem Pike. There will be a Texaco gas station on your right and the Spring House Tavern on your left.
- Proceed about 1/4 mile, the Drafting room will be on your left.
Directions from the Allentown-Bethlehem Area
- Take Route 309 south through Quakertown
- Stay on Route 309 through "5 Points" and past the Montgomery Mall on your right.
- Cross Rt 63 (Welsh Road) stay to LEFT on Old Bethlehem Pike. DO NOT take the 309 By-Pass.
- Proceed through the intersection of Norristown Rd (on left). The Spring House Tavern is on your left.
- Proceed about 1/4 mile. The Drafting Room is on your left.
